Mount Pleasant estate to have 6,000 HDB flats, up from 5,000 previously announced

HDB states the “white flat” layout will be given at Mount Pleasant Crest. Flat buyers can opt for the open-concept layout, which provides an adjoining living and bedroom area without separation surfaces, when they are encouraged to book a flat.

Presented by the new Mount Pleasant MRT Station on the Thomson-East Coast Line, Mount Pleasant will be a car-lite estate and include Transit Priority Corridors with dedicated bus lanes, wider foot paths and cycling paths. New roadways, consisting of a major highway called “Old Police Academy Road”, will additionally be built to improve access. There will also be a sheltered pedestrian thoroughfare that links the various precincts in Mount Pleasant, HDB shares.

Mount Pleasant’s closeness to Toa Payoh will also factor into demand and prices. “The project might be a Prime BTO as resale flat rates in Toa Payoh are quite high and the mature estate has one of the greatest numbers of million-dollar resale flats,” Lee adds. Prime apartments are subject to tighter guidelines, such as a 10-year minimum occupation period and a subsidy clawback.

According to HDB, the increased supply follows “additional detailed planning researches” and will guide to fulfill strong property demand.

This will be the 2nd BTO project to present the white flat layout, after the Crawford Heights BTO project, that launched last October. According to HDB, around four in 10 flat customers went with the style at that project.

The very first BTO project in the Mount Pleasant estate will be started as section of the October 2025 BTO activity. Called Mount Pleasant Crest, it will provide about 1,350 units of two-room flexi to four-room flats. There are going to even be 270 units of public rental condos.

Lee Sze Teck, leading supervisor of data analytics at Hiuttons Asia, thinks the Mount Pleasant Crest project that will be launched for sale in October will draw strong interest, due to its location close to Mount Pleasant MRT Terminal and schools such as CHIJ Primary Toa Payoh and Singapore Chinese Girls’ School.

Six buildings, which HDB states were “recognized as the most significant depictions of cops heritage”, have been conserved and will definitely be incorporated into the new estate. 4 blocks are going to be repurposed for alternative purposes including a neighbourhood police post and SPF Heritage Gallery. One block is going to remain to function as the Senior Law Enforcement Officer’ Mess, while another will be incorporated right into future projects. Furthermore, the previous OPA parade square will be kept as public space for community use.

Four Build-to-Order (BTO) ventures are prepared for the upcoming Mount Pleasant estate, which will produce about 6,000 new apartments upon finish. This is 1,000 more than the 5,000 units previously revealed for the 33ha site, HDB states in a Sept 2 announcement.

Eugene Lim, key director at ERA Singapore, mentions that the white flat layout at Mount Pleasant Crest may appeal to younger Singaporeans and property owners planning to do extensive renovations. “A white level typology will give them the alternative to tailor-make their design to accommodate their housing needs, permitting flexibility over the longer term,” he claims.
